Atheist Sophistry On Quranic Science Debunked…By A Muslim Scientitst

The atheist ‘YouTuber’ known as ‘The Rationalizer’ is the worst kind of charlatan and an embarrassment to both religious and non-religious people, not to mention Edward Woodward.

Here physics graduate and Islamic scholar Hafiz Mahmut aka ‘Chuck Connors’ (after joining astronaut selection) exposes his gaffes and bargain – basement sophistry.

He also takes Muslim apologists and speakers to task for forcing ‘scientific’ explanations into the Quran when they really shouldn’t.

‘The Rationalizers’ errors in the fields of science, history and religion are way too numerous to all be addressed individually, but this representative sample of his molestation of cosmology, mauling of the Arabic language and abuse of the historical method should suffice for intellectually engaged Muslims and Atheists, though it won’t stop him subjecting the public to his cheap polemics.

A unique video in both the qualifications of the speaker and the detail of his withering critique

  1. السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ Dr.

I was wondering if I could get your perspective on the new article authored by Hamza Tzortzis? Do you think this shows some signs of actual intellectual maturation for the movement?

  2. Salaams semsav, thanks as always!

I believe that Hafiz Connors is going to review it: for my part, I think ‘intellectual maturation’ is being forced on iERA due to the barrage of criticism it has faced for certain ‘Quran and science’ arguments – also, they are strangely reluctant to spend the (million(s)) they receive on hiring professional scientists (Muslim or otherwise), leaving them ‘wide open’.

And indeed leaves them open to an avalanche of criticism, which they are now seemingly drowning under, and taking many people’s Iman along with them. You have to ask yourself why an organisation which claims on it’s website to receive £800,000 in yearly ‘personal donations’ alone has to quote mine Prof Keith Moore (from the 1970’s) instead of doing original research or at least commissioning an embryologist (or two) from one of the numerous medical schools in the UK – anyone will do. It’s either cheapness or foolishness. I suspect both.

Why is iERA’s ‘paper’ on embryology written by a non-Embryologist (and non- Quran expert)? If there was no choice then fine, but that much money buys options.

This guy did a very good expose of them a while back: they have tried to disassociate themselves from ‘Dawahman’ in the meantime:

You should also consider Adnan Rashid’s recent ‘departure’ (read: expulsion) from iERA. This individuals culling may be part of the ‘maturation’; or they got rid of him because he is ‘that’ kind of Wahhabi who makes comments about the Saudi Royals. The co-option of Akram Ali Nadvi is not really progress though…

Hafiz Connors is going to do another video and article soon, but for my money, the reason Salafi organisations are highly dependant on ‘Science and the Quran’ arguments is due to their necessary hostility to Kalam: this leaves them lacking a proof for the existence of God (ibn Taymiyya said one was not needed, it was self evident or pointed to the design argument only).

Lacking philosophic/kalam proofs means ‘science’ is the only option and gets put on a pedestal and shoehorned in.

But unlike Hafiz Mahmut ‘Chuck’ Connors, I’m not a cosmologist: he will have much more to say about this.

      Jazakalla Khair for your response!

You are absolutely right about their hostility to Kalam! I mean, doesn’t Hamza have to use Kalam to answer atheists? I went to a muslim rally at a school once, unfortunately, they were mostly of the Wahhabi/salafi variety, and their aversion to kalam was showing when people asked questions! Don’t get me started at their polemics against Christianity! Thankfully, we have scholars such as yourself and Hafiz to straighten these things out.

  3. Salam Alaykum,

I wanted to know: Given that the current state of Da’wah and defense of Islam is mostly in the hands of anti-Kalaam, anti-formal Usool people (along with all the problems that come from that), is there any way that we can contact the traditional Shuyuukh and ‘Ulaama for the purpose of forming an organization that defends and propagates Islam, and shows the mistakes of other religions based on the traditional methodology of Islam?

It is obvious that we would need ‘modern scientists’ also on board, but the main figures would be the traditional ‘Ulamaa. These videos that are posted here have their benefit Alhamdullilah, but if we were to form a type of “traditional-roots only IeRA”, then we may get better benefits for our efforts.
